How Carson’s career in information services and publishing systems development spans 30 years as a systems analyst and data manager in the graphic arts, automotive and aerospace industries. He learned about the graphic arts and computerized typography as a young man employed first by his father’s company, Carson Typography, and later at ROCAPPI (Research On Computerized Applications in the Printing and Publishing Industries), the pioneering graphic arts firm founded by printing innovator John Seybold.

While employed as IS Manager for a spacecraft manufacturer in the 1980s, he was a member of the Aerospace Industries Association’s Publications Committee that developed SGML standards, which eventually became the baseline for creating hypertext markup and the world wide web. He began studying hypertext development at the University of Maryland in 1989.

In 1997 How started a web design and hosting company that has evolved to become US Server Net, LLC Cooperative, a member-owned, democratically-run managed WordPress service for small businesses, professionals and non-profits, with a focus on performance, security, and reliability.

In 2015 he launched How Carson Consulting, LLC to provide online presence planning, WordPress site administration and content management best practices training. He teaches WordPress classes at several adult night school programs in the Philly area.

How is a business and technical writer with project management, document design and production supervision experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and did graduate work in Computer Science and Business Administration at Rutgers University. He is a frequent speaker for groups interested in learning about Internet technology including WordPress, open source software, and web vulnerability management.

He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Wyndmoor, PA with their two Jack Russell terriers. His hobbies include Zydeco dancing and riding his Yamaha scooter.
